Stills from the State of Play:
The US Congress is investigating the suspicious activities of "PoyntKorp." Its staff, mostly retired military, managed to light up all the hot spots of the globe where their homeland was at least some interest. Murder, kidnapping, arms trafficking, and most importantly - billions and billions of dollars spent on it, and more - that are interested in the Congress, and especially Stephen Collins, chairman of the "Committee for the Monitoring of defense spending" (Ben Affleck). In life, Collins immediately comes a black stripe. Killed his personal assistant, Sonia (Maria Thayer), aware of all the intricacies of investigation "PoytKorpa." At a press conference Collins, unable to restrain himself, begins to cry, thus making it clear to Congress and the crowd around the predatory journalists that Sonia was him not only an assistant. A little more, and on the career of a young politician can put a cross. But then there is Russell Crowe - Cal MakEffri journalist, a former classmate and friend of Collins for an interesting coincidence addition slept with his wife - Anne Collins (Robin Wright Penn). MakEffri and his colleague, part-time blogger, Della Frye (Rachel McAdams) hyping the story and find out that the death of Sonia was neither random, neither the first nor the last. Gradually start to get out and the rest of the facts, one terrible and unpleasant to another. Billions of dollars in serious cases of corruption are associated with indecent stories involving strippers, and significant political figures fall into dependence on small vile impostors. But journalists tirelessly dig and dig further, dig until it becomes absolutely disgusting, and while the film does not end. The six-hour mini-series "The Big Game" a few years ago was shown on the BBC on-Sea and told stories about the intricate corridors of power in Britain. Writing team reduced the story to two hours, moved the action in Washington, and Kevin Macdonald ("The Last King of Scotland") took off on it full-length movies. With topical overtones (like confrontation "serious" print journalism and the ubiquitous Internet blogs) and with several owners of "Oscars". Further morality that this is the journalism, even if their righteous investigations based on the scandalous chronicle and does not shrink from minor violations of laws, is still at least some authority on the account and can not ruin a reputation. All theoretically correct and well, though not original. Poor else: the story is implausible due to the characters. There is no such mothers and simultaneously idealistic wordsmiths, there is no such honest and at the same time stupid and vile politicians. Does not work on the third day gloomy and naive novice professional and youthful friendship and love long have unlimited influence in politics. Though - if only in the movies.
