Critic's response:

The director of "Chocolate" took a delicious movie about an Indian restaurant, opened in Provence. Swedish director Lasse Halsstrёm previously worked with culinary-themed food. In particular, it was he who put the melodrama "Chocolate" with Johnny Depp and Juliette Binoche in the lead roles. As in this tape, in the new film Hallstrom "The Hundred-Foot Journey" events unfold in a small French town, but this time we are talking about very different heroes. Hindu family by the name of Kadam lived in Mumbai, where he was kept on-site restaurant. The kitchen is hosted mom, but she was preparing to hand over the reins to his son Hassan (Manish Dayal). But once there was a revolution, the restaurant was burned, and his mother died in a fire. The family decided to move to Europe and Indian dishes to feed local inhabitants. Kadam first settled in the UK, but there they were not lucky with the weather, in addition, the quality of local agricultural products does not suit them. Therefore, the family moved to France, where literally by accident settled in Provence. Building a family business to a new place has turned into a real adventure due to two reasons. First, across the street from the Indian restaurant edalni turned Madame Malory (Helen Mirren), the holder of a Michelin star. The original name of the movie - "A journey of a 100ot" - in fact, refers to the distance separating the two points of catering. Malory found new neighbors noisy, vulgar and not related not only to haute cuisine, but also to the quality of food in general, and therefore initially mending their obstacles. Second, the restaurant Madame Malory chef worked Marguerite (Charlotte Le Bon, a little like a young Winona Ryder). With her Hassan began a professional relationship. First, let's talk about the positive. Helen Mirren is gorgeous as usual; the script does not give her too much run wild, but with the available tasks actress manages to ten points out of ten. Dayal and Le Bon is very nice, and Hallstrom also still able to show the incredibly delicious food - or you really do not care for your stomach, or during the film you drool will flow. In general, "The Hundred-Foot Journey" - a touching movie, cute and very delicious (do not know whether the latter epithet compliment in describing the comedic drama). It's time to move on to the negative - but nothing bad about "The Hundred-Foot Journey", in general, and not say. Yes, it is naive and superficial movie, political unrest in India and remains something distant and abstract, naturalization immigrants in France also told to put it mildly, without details. Among the characters there is only one French chef sticking nationalist views, but his Madame Malory instantly fires. Cinema as it tells us: cook with soul, and everything will work out. But this is Disney, nobody expected that the film will be a sharp political statement, and look forward to all the lovely fairy tale. Especially the paintings depicting the hardships of life visiting chefs in France, and without Halstrema removed.
